We spoke with Flora the Yogi, an OF and social media creator whose work centers on authenticity, wellness, and good energy. She talked about burning out early on, finding her spark again through yoga, and why vulnerability is at the heart of what she makes.
Vulnerability as the core of her work
Flora describes her work as creating a safe space for her fans, built on authenticity and vulnerability.
"When you're scrolling through social media and you see someone just being raw and vulnerable and authentic, it kind of allows you to let down your walls as well. So that's what I do. I'm raw and vulnerable on the internet, and I create a safe space by doing that for others to do the same."
She says the reactions vary. Along with the usual hate comments creators get, some people are bothered by that level of openness.
Burning out before finding her way
Before she became a creator, Flora worked as an OF assistant, helping other creators find success. When she started her own page, she followed what she saw others doing.
"I was creating a lot more explicit content than I do now. It was fun and great at first... But after a while it became very overwhelming. I burnt out. I felt like my sexuality didn't belong to me anymore, like I was giving [it] away."
She slowly stepped back until she stopped creating altogether, and started yoga teacher training with plans to teach full time.
Creating on her own terms
During that training, Flora says her creativity came back.
"What if I were just to create, not thinking about what I need to make or what people might like? Just create what I want, intuitively, spiritually. So I started doing that and, surprisingly, people love that. It blew up."
The impact behind the screen
Flora says she gets messages from people almost every day.
"I'm getting messages from people saying your social media content has really helped me, I've been in a dark place, your content gives me peace... It always warms my heart."
She also hosted an event called Bloom, a Zoom call with some of her fans, where the group talked about topics like grief and shame.
"It was extremely powerful to host and to watch as these men opened up about these feelings."
The invisible side of the job
When asked what people outside the industry don't see, Flora pointed to how much energy the job takes.
"People don't realize that we are talking to people all day, every day. We're giving away our energy with every single conversation... If you were texting someone all day, every day, how draining that would be."
She says it took time to set boundaries and not feel guilty when she had nothing left to give.
How she stays grounded
Flora says that even though she comes across as positive online, she has hard days too.
"I have my struggles just like everyone else... I cry a lot. But I always have things to come back to, to bring me to my baseline of, you know, life's good, everything's gonna be okay."
She believes happiness is a choice. Yoga, meditating almost every day, and journaling help her get back to that baseline.
If not this, then what?
Flora worked in marketing before becoming a creator, and says she might otherwise be teaching yoga full time or doing healing work like Reiki or sound healing.
"I think what I do is also an extension of my yoga, of my philosophy... It all just kind of meshes together into what I'm doing now."
Flora's message for everyone
We asked Flora if there was anything else she wanted to share:
Life is supposed to be fun
"Don't get so lost in the seriousness of it all. We only have this one life to live, maybe, who knows? So just enjoy it."
Be kind to each other
"Remember it's supposed to be fun, and you're supposed to find things to be happy about and to be kind to each other."
